- Windows 95.
- 7. Deleting files not removed by the MultiPASS Uninstaller
- 8. Application Notes
-
- 1.----------------------------------------------------------------
-
- IMPORTANT General Notes:
-
- 1A When printing, make sure you use the Canon MultiPASS C3000
- Printer driver, supplied with the MultiPASS software.
-
- 1B The MultiPASS Background must be running before the MultiPASS
- Desktop Manager, the MultiPASS C3000 Printer Driver, the
- MultiPASS Fax Driver, the MultiPASS Scanner driver or
- the MultiPASS Diagnostics is executed.
-
- 1C When using the Address Book Export and Import functions,
- you can Import and Export the First Name, Last Name, Company,
- Fax Number and Telephone Number fields only. Group entries
- and Address and Notes fields cannot be exported or imported.
-
- 1D If you exit Windows while the MultiPASS Background is sending a
- fax or printing a file, the job information may not be
- updated. In this case the MultiPASS Background will activate
- the same job again the next time you load Windows.
-
- 1E Make sure that "Spool Settings" in the MultiPASS C3000 Printer
- Properties Details Tab is set to "Enable bi-directional support
- for this printer".
-
- 1F Make sure that the MultiPASS Desktop Manager and MultiPASS
- Background are NOT running when installing any application(s)
- on your Windows system.
-
-
- 2.----------------------------------------------------------------
-
- The dialog box "Canon MultiPASS, Either there is no device
- connected to the parallel port or the device connected to
- the parallel port is not a MultiPASS C3000....":
-
- The dialog box "Canon MultiPASS, Either there is no device
- connected to the parallel port or the device connected to
- the parallel port is not a MultiPASS C3000...." appears when
- the MultiPASS C3000 is disconnected, or if another printer
- is connected to the parallel port.
-
- Any time you disconnect the MultiPASS C3000 from the printer
- port and the MultiPASS software is running, you will see this
- dialog box. This dialog box indicates that the MultiPASS
- software cannot communicate with the MultiPASS C3000 and
- suggests several possible causes. After the problem has
- been corrected, you may click Retry in this dialog box,
- and the dialog box will disappear.
-
- If MultiPASS Background runs automatically from the StartUp
- group, you will see this dialog box each time you restart
- Windows if the MultiPASS C3000 is not connected and functioning
- properly. To avoid this situation, remove the MultiPASS
- Background icon from the StartUp group. Of course, if you
- do this, you will need to run MultiPASS Background manually
- the next time you want to use the MultiPASS C3000.
-
- 3.--------------------------------------------------------------
-
- The MultiPASS Diagnostic and/or the MultiPASS Background
- failed when trying to communicate with the MultiPASS C3000.
-
- You are likely to have one of the following problems.
-
- A. Your printer cable is too long or defective. Please
- replace your cable with a new, shielded one.
-
- B. Your printer cable is not a bi-directional cable.
- Please replace your cable with a new, bi-directional one.
- (IEEE 1284 compatible)
-
- C. There is a pass-through device (such as a ZIP Drive) on
- the same parallel port as the MultiPASS C3000. Please
- disconnect the pass-through device, and connect the
- MultiPASS C3000 directly to the parallel port.
-
- D. There is another program running that uses the parallel
- port to which the MultiPASS C3000 is connected. Please
- verify that all other printer software that uses the
- port is turned off.
-
- E. Your PC's parallel port may have hardware difficulties.
- This should only happen if your PC has a parallel
- port of "ECP" type.
-
- To determine if your PC is set to use an "ECP" parallel
- port, run MultiPASS Diagnostics. In the log file
- displayed at the end of the diagnostic test, check
- if there is a line "PortMode=ECP". If you find this
- line, then your PC uses an "ECP" parallel port.
-
- You can reconfigure the MultiPASS software not to use
- ECP even if your parallel port on the PC is set to use
- ECP. This may result in slower communication, but is
- necessary if there is a problem with the ECP hardware
- in your PC.
-
- To disable ECP in the MultiPASS Desktop Manager:
-
- 1. Exit MultiPASS Background and any other MultiPASS
- programs that are running.
- 2. Open MPASS.INI in your Windows directory with
- NOTEPAD.
- 3. Find the section [System]. If it doesn't exist,
- then add it to the bottom of the file.
- 4. Add the following line:
- PortMode=Standard
- 5. Save MPASS.INI.
- 6. Restart MultiPASS Background.
-
- To check if you have successfully made the change, rerun
- MultiPASS Diagnostics. In the log file, there should
- now be a line:
- "PortMode=ECP - User configured s/w not to use"
-
- 4.---------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Parallel port security devices and other parallel port products,
- such as ZIP Drives and some scanners, with a "pass-through" port
- for the printer:
-
- The MultiPASS C3000 hardware and software is not compatible with
- parallel port security devices, sometimes called parallel port
- "keys" or "dongles." Likewise, the MultiPASS C3000 is not
- compatible with other parallel port products which include a
- pass-through port for the printer, like Xircom's parallel port
- "multiplexer", Trantor's MiniSCSI parallel-to-SCSI adapters or
- Iomega's ZIP Drive.
-
- If you are using any of these products, you must unplug them
- and connect the MultiPASS C3000 directly to your computer's
- parallel port.
-
- 5.--------------------------------------------------------------
- Installing the MultiPASS Desktop Manager on LPT2 or LPT3 in
- Windows 3.x (not applicable for Windows 95).
-
- Windows 3.x installs any printer driver to LPT1 by default, even
- if you have a LPT2 or LPT3 port installed. Therefore you must
- manually change the printer driver port assigned to the
- MultiPASS C3000 to LPT2 or LPT3 after the MultiPASS Desktop Manager
- installation is completed. If you do not do this, your system
- will not work properly with the MultiPASS C3000, even if you
- selected LPT2 or LPT3 during the installation of the Desktop
- Manager software.
-
- This is how you change the parallel port assigned to the printer
- driver:
-
- 1. Open Control Panel
- 2. Double-click Printers to see the list of installed
- printer drivers.
- 3. Select the Canon MultiPASS C3000.
- 4. Click Connect, and select LPT2 or LPT3 depending on
- which port you wish to use.
- 5. Click OK, exit out of Control Panel and re-start your
- system.
-
-
- 6.--------------------------------------------------------------
- Reinstalling the MultiPASS Desktop Manager on a system running
- Windows 95.
-
- To be able to successfully reinstall the MultiPASS Desktop Manager
- software, including the MultiPASS C3000 Printer driver and the
- MultiPASS Fax driver, you must follow this procedure:
-
- 1. Uninstall the Desktop Manager software using the MultiPASS
- Uninstaller in the Canon MultiPASS C3000 Utilities group.
- 2. Open the Printers Folder in the Control Panel, and manually
- delete both the MultiPASS C3000 Printer driver and the
- MultiPASS Fax driver.
- 3. Restart Windows (important).
- 4. Reinstall the software as described in the MultiPASS C3000
- user documentation.
-
- 7.--------------------------------------------------------------
- Deleting files not removed by the MultiPASS Uninstaller.
-
- The following files are not removed by the MultiPASS Uninstaller
- since they may be used by other programs as shared files.

-
- The following files are not deleted during MultiPASS Uninstall
- since they include information from your Address Book, custom
- created cover pages and Fax Log. If these files are not deleted,
- they can be re-used the next time you install the MultiPASS
- Desktop Manager. Please note that if you manually delete these
- files, you can no longer access this information:
-
- \MPASS\COVERPG\*.CVR Cover Page files
- \MPASS\COVERPG\*.TIF Cover Page files
- \MPASS\FAXLOG\*.LOG Fax Log
- \MPASS\FAXQ\*.CTL Sent/Received Fax

- MultiPASS Desktop Manager, such as custom created cover page
- files, are also not removed by the MultiPASS Uninstaller.
-
- 8.--------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Application Notes:
-
- 8A. When scanning complex images, some applications will
- require that you increase the size of the Windows swap
- file to 50 MB or more, in order to work correctly.
-
- 8B. To import .TIF files to the Desktop Manager, make sure
- that the files you import are in black and white (1-bit)
- format. Color or grayscale images cannot be imported.
-
- 8C. Some smaller applications such as Microsoft WordPad may
- not allow you to specify the number of copies you would
- like to print in the Print dialog box. These applications
- will always print one copy.
-
- 8D. When using Adobe Photoshop 3.x on a system running
- Windows 3.11, you must have the following entry in your
- CONFIG.SYS file:
-
- install=c:\dos\share.exe
-
- 8E. When scanning OCR with Caere OmniPage Pro 6.0 for
- Windows 3.1, you must add an entry to the file SCANMGR.INI.
- This file is installed by Caere OmniPage, usually in the
- \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\CAERE directory.
-
- Add the following entry to SCANMGR.INI by opening the file
- in a text editor such as Notepad:
-
- [MultiPASS Source]
- SHOW_UI=1
- INVERT=1
- LA_INVERT=1
- THRESHOLD=1
- AUTO_BRI=0
-
- 8F. When scanning OCR with Caere OmniPage Pro 6.0 for
- Windows 3.1, you must set the scanning resolution to
- 300 dpi and Manual Bright.
-
- 8G. When scanning multiple pages with Caere OmniPage Pro 6.0,
- you must click the Accept button for each page scanned.
- This is even if all pages have been scanned through the
- feeder.
-
- 8H. If you experience problems printing in landscape from
- Microsoft Exchange 4.0 for Windows 3.1, please add the
- line below to the [Options] section in your EXCHNG.INI
- file. Use a text editor such as Notepad to open the
- EXCHNG.INI file.
-
- [Options]
- UsePrintBanding=0
-
- The EXCHNG.INI file is usually located in the \WINDOWS
- directory. After the entry is added, and the system has
- been restarted, landscape printing will work correctly.
-
- 8I. If you are unable to print and/or fax from Paintbrush
- on Windows 3.1 you may receive one of the following
- error messages:
-
- 1. "Unable to print, not enough memory or printer not
- installed properly. Close other applications or
- check the Control Panel Printers icon for printer
- configuration."
-
- 2. "PBRUSHX: An error has occured in your application."
-
- These error messages can be caused by certain choices
- of video modes and video resolutions. To correct the
- problem run Windows Setup again and change the video
- driver to the standard Windows VGA driver, or choose
- an appropriate third-party video driver that uses
- 256 colors rather than 32K, 64K or 16 million colors.
-
- 8J. From the viewer black-and-white images may be exported
- in either TIFF or PCX formats. Grayscale images should
- be exported only in TIFF format. If you attempt to
- export a grayscale image in PCX format the resulting
- file may not contain an accurate copy of the image.
-
- 8K. From the viewer it is possible to copy a selected
- portion of a black-and-white image to the clipboard
- and from the clipboard paste it into another
- application. If you attempt to copy from a grayscale
- image to the clipboard the resulting bitmap may be
- accompanied by an inaccurate color palette. An
- attempt to paste such a bitmap into another graphics
- application may yield an image with colors that were
- not present in the original.
- -----------------------------------------------------------------
